You’re reading this because you’re interested in Meetey, have heard of Meetey, or are wondering why a franchise should use another social media platform.
Good. You’re in the right place.
So let’s get right to work.
[What is Meetey.com?]
Meetey.com is a virtual neighborhood. If LinkedIn is for professionals, and if Facebook is for personal profiles, Meetey is for communities and neighborhoods. In fact, Meetey describes itself as “a location-based social network aimed at bringing neighbors together.”
Indeed, their slogan does not lie. Meetey is a new social media platform created for people yearning for community. If you want new friends, information on your neighbors, sports parties or public soccer games, a romantic relationship, or deals in local restaurants, Meetey certainly helps.
“Oh no,” you may be saying, “not another social media account.”
Don’t fret. Meetey is different.
Using a user’s city and street, Meetey compiles all events in one place. Facebook may have events pages, but Meetey has one page with all listed events in a given city.
Pretty cool, right?
Meetey now has both a web presence and a mobile app. By typing in your street and city to the home page, you instantly see lists of events. Of course, to see events, others most post them. So you rely on your neighbors to market themselves. But for those that do, their events are public knowledge.
[Where is Meetey most popular?]
In 2012, entrepreneur Tomer Yosef launched Meetey in Tel Aviv, Israel.
“I realized that I had no interaction with my neighbors, and I missed having a place to play soccer,” says Yosef, commenting on his move from northern Israel to Tel Aviv. “I started wandering around the Web, trying to find an online tool that would enable me to get to know my neighbors, but could find none. There are a lot of location apps, but they are not community oriented; they don’t offer opportunities for real interaction with your neighbors.”
Despite his rather humble marketing endeavors (in other words, he didn’t), Meetey easily grew to 100,000 users. Because of this wild growth, Yosef and his team launched Meetey worldwid. At the time, 95% of Meetey’s users where from Israel. Since its launch in May 2013, however, people everywhere are signing up. At the start of 2014, Meetey has expanded to 90 countries, accumulating 200,000 users.
While not as active as its rival Nextdoor.com, Meetey is quickly expanding across the United States.
Admittedly, Meetey is not as popular as Facebook or Twitter. And yet that makes Meetey all the more exciting. Now is the time to make your business stand out. Now is the time to draw attention to your franchise. Now is the time to steer Meetey in your direction.
[How do I use Meetey?]
First, go to the Meetey beta site.
Once there, Meetey lets you sign in with Facebook, Twitter, or Google email. Using information from these accounts, Meetey creates your profile.
“Okay, now what?”
When you sign in, Meetey will ask for your interests. If you’re an active user, this is important. You need to label your events accurately. Or you risk fading into obscurity.
Once you confirm your interests, you will see a map. This map shows all the events taking place, all the people signed in on, and all the franchises that decide to join.
In the right corner, you’ll see a toolbar with six tools.
1. Tell your Story: The first tool is the “publish your story” tab. This is similar to Facebook’s comment bar.
2. Calendar: The second is the main calendar. Your calendar compiles all events into one page.
3. Find People: Admittedly, this is where many Meetey’s users differ from a franchise’s purposes. The finder tab is for people wanting a relationship. A lot of social media guros predict Meetey will slowly drift toward dating relationships. But, honestly, they said that about Facebook and Twitter, too.
4. Find a Professional: The little hammer is the “professional” tab. If you need a locksmith, a branding strategist, system analyst, writer, or yoga instructor, you’d find her or him here.
5. Expand the Map: the double arrows expand or contract the map.
6. Search: the search bar is, obviously, a bar full of hunters.
[Is Meetey.com important for my franchise?]
Meetey’s purpose is to connect neighbors. So, first off, yes, Meetey.com is important.
The bigger question is how?
One approach to answering this is in local PR. Meetey enables franchises to display their PR stuff immediately. To do this, click on the calendar tab. When you do this, you’ll see a “+” in the bottom corner.
Now you will see an events page.
From this, you can start creating pages for your community. If you have a karaoke night every Tuesday, create an event for it. If your franchise sponsors a marathon every year, make an event. If you are having a happy hour lunch, create an event for it.
[I’m curious: who is using Meetey?]
Right now, 200,000 users are on Meetey. The platform is not as popular as other social media. But it’s growing. Now is the time to harness Meetey, understand its operations, and use it for your franchise.
